چکیده

Abstract Filament stretching rheometry is a prominent experimental method to determine rheological properties in extensional flow whereby the separating plates extension rate. In literature, several correction factors that can compensate for errors introduced by shear contribution near have been and validated linear viscoelastic regime. this work, systematic analysis conducted if material-independent factor be found non-linear polymers. To end, finite element model presented describe resulting stresses filament rheometer. The incorporates viscoelasticity radius-based controller plate speed added mimic typical rheometry. comparing force simulations with analytical solutions. effects of end-plates on measurements are investigated, modification proposed This shows good agreement performed at multiple initial aspect ratios strain rates shown valid range polymers behaviour.

Filament-stretching Rheometry of Complex Fluids

■ Abstract Filament-stretching rheometers are devices for measuring the extensional viscosity of moderately viscous non-Newtonian fluids such as polymer solutions. In these devices, a cylindrical liquid bridge is initially formed between two circular end-plates. The plates are then moved apart in a prescribed manner such that the fluid sample is subjected to a strong extensional deformation. As...

Filament stretching and capillary breakup extensional rheometry measurements of viscoelastic wormlike micelle solutions

filament stretching extensional rheometer and capillary breakup extensional rheometer are used o measure the extensional rheology of a series of wormlike micelle solutions experiencing a niaxial elongational flow. The experiments are performed using a series of wormlike micelle olutions of both cetylpyridinium chloride and sodium salicylate NaSal in an aqueous sodium hloride solution and cetylt...

Using Filament Stretching Rheometry to Predict Strand Formation and “Processability” in Adhesives and other Non-Newtonian Fluids

The spinning of polymeric fibers, the processing of numerous foodstuffs and the peel & tack characteristics of adhesives is associated with the formation, stability and, ultimately, the longevity of thin fluid ‘strands’. This tendency to form strands is usually described in terms of the tackiness of the fluid or by heuristic concepts such as ‘stringiness’ [Lakrout et al., J. Adhesion 69, 307 (1...

Stretching tethered DNA chains in shear flow

– We discuss the stretching of tethered chains subject to a shear flow. Fluorescence microscopy measurements of the extension of sheared tethered DNA, “model polymers”, of various lengths are presented. The tethered chains approach full extension as the flow rate is increased, but very slowly. We show that a general theory to understand the large deformation of any sheared tethered chain must i...

Free oscillation rheometry monitoring of haemodilution and hypothermia and correction with fibrinogen and factor XIII

Background: Haemodilution and hypothermia induce coagulopathy separately, but their combined effect on coagulation has not been widely studied. Fibrinogen concentrate can correct dilutional coagulopathy and has an additional effect when combined with factor XIII concentrate. However, their effect on dilutional coagulopathy concomitant with hypothermia has not been studied previously. Free oscil...
